Analysis of Double Page Spread

In this double page spread the main image is taking up a whole page, this hooks the audience in as she is very well known therefore when audience see the picture (which can’t missed) they’ll be interested in reading about what it’s associated with. By having the image large it also makes her look powerful suggesting she dominates the music industry, therefore she’ll be quite interesting to read about. She’s also looking directly at the audience, direct address attracts them as they feel like they’re interacting with the her.
Lily Allen is wearing casual clothes; this appeals to a large mainstream because they would dress in a similar way. However, her cloths are quite manly; this could repel her feminine and heterosexual men audience. But it would draw in homosexual women. Allen’s make-up and hair goes with the genre of music she produce’s, her fans may want to imitate her look. The colour of her clothes (red and black) goes with the colour scheme used through out the page, creating brand identity.

The floating quote also takes a lot of the page; they have made it prominent as quotes are used to get readers interested in reading the article. The floating quote is different from most music magazine’s as they have used cut up letters which are mostly seen in blackmail letters. This goes with the context of the article and Allen’s personality as she is brutally honest, and  rude. This might also attract reader’s as they might think she could be threatening someone in the article. The quote also suggests that she’s going to be honest about what she thinks, therefore she might come up with some gossip – which is one of the main reason audiences buy magazines.

A sub heading is used to give out more information on what the article is going to be about. Within it Lilly’s name has been written in a bigger font compared to the rest of the text, it’s also in red making it outstanding. They have made it stand out to draw in her fans as they would immediately recognize her name.
The copy is written in columns, this is typical for an article; the text type is simple making it easy for audiences to read. The article is written in constant form, this subverts the RnB genre as I would expect it to be in question and answer form as it’s easier and more fun to read. This form is also aimed at a younger audience which is the targeted audience for most RnB artists. However the language if probably informal and this is what attracts a young audience, plus the article is embedded with quotes from Allen which also attracts the audience.
